I’ve been going to Disneyland all these years, and I never knew about the “secretDole Whip ice cream until just recently.   Three years ago to be exact.  How could such awesomeness go right under my nose this whole time?!

For those of you who don’t know, There is a secret location inside of Disneyland here in Southern California that sells a “Dole Whip” ice cream.

Even though it’s never really advertised anywhere in the park or in the map, it is one of their most popular treats.  When I got mine, the line was pretty long, and I think we waited in line for about 20 minutes.

But it was SO worth it.

It was super delicious!!

It is a basically, a pineapple-flavored ice cream.

And I’m not exaggerating when I tell you this, but it is literally, one of THE BEST ice creams I have ever had.

(Dark or Hazelnut) Chocolate is definitely my favorite ice cream/gelato flavor, but, the pineapple Dole Whip is up there too.  So many flavors to choose from, but top 5 for sure!

Very few locations actually sell this frozen treat.

I believe all Disney parks sell it, because of their working relationship with Dole.   The Dole Plantation in Hawaii also sells it, and I believe it’s the original, authentic version.

I’ve also seen it in Belmont Park in San Diego, but it differs in color and texture.

I think if you order a “Dole Whip” from anywhere else other than in Hawaii or a Disney park you’ll get a similar product, but I wouldn’t say that it’s the original recipe.

I had to recreate this delicious dessert, but if only I could find the right combination using real fruit and add muscle-building protein to the mix.

And I think what I came up with is pretty damn close to the original.

So, here is my version, simplified—-using only 4 ingredients.

Enter the Pineapple Whip Protein Smoothie!!

Tastes just like Disneyland‘s!  But in smoothie form!

It’s thick, creamy, nutritious, and loaded with muscle-nourishing protein!

Using only frozen pineapple chunks, frozen sliced bananas, almond milk, and whey protein—-this simple 4 ingredient smoothie is easy to make and super refreshing.

Here’s a quick nutritional breakdown:

Pineapples are a huge source of vitamin C and manganese.  One cup of pineapple chunks alone contain 131% of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin C!  Vitamin C is said to boost the immune system, help fight free radicals that damage our cells, promote healthy skin, and protect the heart.  Manganese helps support bone and brain health.

Bananas are very nutrient-dense fruits, containing high amounts of potassium, fiber, manganese, vitamin B6, vitamin C.   Bananas are also known to aid in muscle recovery after strenuous exercise, boost energy levels, and contains tryptophan, an amino acid said to enhance mood.

A quick note:  It’s best to use all frozen fruits for this smoothie.  This gives you a thicker consistency and no ice is needed, which can water down the flavors.  Also, try not to add any more liquid than necessary!  Thicker is better!

Instructions
  1. Throw all ingredients into a blender.
  2. Blend until it forms a nice, thick consistency.
  3. Enjoy!
Recipe Notes

-For an even thicker, ice cream-like texture, use ALL frozen fruits!

-To freeze a banana, just peel off the skin, slice it up, separate the pieces on a baking pan, and stick it in the freezer for at least 40 minutes.  Same deal with the pineapple---or just buy pre-packaged frozen pineapple chunks from the grocery store.

-If the smoothie is too watery, add more protein powder, or pineapple chunks.

-If the smoothie is too thick, add just a tad more liquid if you really need to.  Just know that this smoothie is best using the least amount of liquid possible.

-Try adding a tsp of vanilla extract for a nice, little vanilla kick.
