Recipe Notes

-You may have to run the frozen acai packet under warm/hot water for about 30 seconds or more, just to melt it and loosen it up enough for lower-powered blenders.

-Because it tastes so good with this recipe, I used Muscle Pharm Combat Protein Powder, cookies and cream flavor.   The cookies and cream flavor may sound weird to mix with this combination, but trust me, it’s delicious!  You can use vanilla or any other flavor you wish.

-1 1/2 scoop of the Muscle Pharm Combat Protein Powder yields approximately 40g Protein.

UPDATE:  I switched protein powders and I use Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Vanilla flavor with this recipe now.  This protein is much cleaner than Combat’s, as it has fewer ingredients, lesser calories, and lesser carbs.  Not as flavorful, but still tastes great.  I still use 1 1/2 scoop.

-I buy all my berries frozen, as it gives it an ice cream-like quality/texture to it.  It’s at a much colder temperature out of the blender than if you used fresh fruit.  No need for ice cubes.

-I like to use frozen bananas for this as well, as it enhances its thick texture and makes it more ice cream-like.   Just peel a banana, chop it up into little pieces, put it on some parchment paper, and stick them in the freezer for at least 30 min.   I do this in advance and I have a large ziploc bag full of chopped up frozen bananas.

-If you want to use fresh berries, go for it.  You may have to add some ice though, for a colder, thicker smoothie.
